About Me
In 2025, Brian Johns joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Colorado State University. His background is in Mechanical Engineering, with B.S.E. and M.S. degrees, and Industrial Engineering, with a Ph.D. focused on design, human factors, and manufacturing.
Over the past decade, he has taught more than twenty unique courses at institutions across the United States and abroad, including community colleges, liberal arts colleges, large public universities, and the United States Air Force Academy. His previous roles include Department Chair of Physics & Engineering at Cornell College and Curriculum Chief of Systems Engineering at the United States Air Force Academy.
Brian’s teaching emphasizes hands-on, collaborative learning through real-world engineering problems, prototyping, and applied technology. Outside the classroom, he enjoys coding, designing systems, CNC machining, welding, construction, automotive repair, furniture building, and exploring the role of artificial intelligence in engineering design and education.
